About Malopolska Digital Library

 

The Provincial Public Library in Krakow is implementing the project: "The Małopolska Digital Library on the horizon of the 21st century - creating an innovative platform for sharing regional digital resources in the Provincial Public Library in Krakow."

 

The subject of the project is:

- building an intuitive and user-friendly platform enabling online sharing of the digital asset of Małopolska Digital Library to broad audiences;

- digitisation of library resources of key importance for the protection of the cultural heritage of Małopolska (digitisation, substantive development of the resource).

 

Design tasks:

- upgrading the MDL platform (open code, modules, self-publishing, multi-search engine);

- mobile studio (hardware and software sharing, training organisation);

- modernisation of the Małopolska Digital Library’s studio;

- organisation of a multi-format MDL archive;

- development and sharing of the digitised resource.

 

The new Małopolska Digital Library is a user-friendly platform readable for the contemporary user, as well as:

- a new way of presenting data on the portal using new flexible criteria with functionalities corresponding to the user’s needs;

- personalisation of the site taking into account: the responsive nature of the portal, the ability to log in and create your own collections;

- providing many possibilities of presenting data and many mechanisms for the internet user to choose between.

 

Proper implementation of the project will ensure:

- use of expert knowledge and cooperation of users, research analyses;

- development of assumptions with evaluation to create a portal according to the needs of users and in accordance with the reference model of the digital library and functionalities typical of text resources;

- development of an optimal portal model that takes into account the best practice of digital libraries;

- preparation of guidelines for presentation formats.

 

The project received funding from the European Regional Development Fund under the Regional Operational Program of the Małopolska Region for the years 2014-2020 – Sub-measure 2.1.2 Digital Regional Resources.
